Karl F.
Spencer is
a native of Escalante, Utah, where he grew up on
a cattle ranch. He received his early education
in Escalante, and upon his graduation from high
school enrolled at Brigham Young University. He
attended BYU for two years and then interrupted
his studies while he served a mission for the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for two years.
He then served in the US Air Force for four years.
Returning to BYU, he earned a BS Degree with a major
in Chemistry and minors in Math and Zoology.
Karl worked for 2 years as
a chemist for Hastings Foundation in California.
However his life's work has been in teaching. He
has taught math on the Junior High and High School
level for 33 years and evening school on Community
College level for 15 years. During his teaching
career, he has traveled extensively throughout the
U.S. and the world and has taught students from
many ethnic backgrounds.
Karl loves math, traveling,
playing golf, dancing, and gardening. He and his
wife now make their home in Escalante. They have
two daughters and five grandchildren.
