“I just want to thank you for the things you
did to get me to where I am now. You really taught
me a heap of things that I did not think I would ever
learn. You really brought me up well while I was here;
mentally, physically, and educationally. Because of
you two, Elaine and Emilee, and everyone else at the
school, you taught me how to be a good person, even
when I made little and some major mistakes while I
was in your care.
“I will remember all
of the good times we had together. It’s because
of you gals, I have been able to make new friends.
I have been able to enrich my relationship with my
mom to an extent that a lot of people call unimaginable.
So, thank you for that.
“Now I know who to turn
to when I am feeling down, it’s God. This has
changed my life in so many ways. I know and I know
Heavenly Father knows, that if you would have never
come into my life, I wouldn’t be where I am
today.” --Josh, California
“As
I near the end of my stay at your school I have been
thinking about the past and all the time I have spent
here; all that I have learned in school as person
and how to apply myself.
“Since July 24th of last
year I have worked so hard to achieve my goals. With
our good times and our bumps through the road, I have
learned to be a new person and set my priorities straight.
“Elaine, remember when
you stayed up and checked on me all night the night
I had my wisdom teeth pulled? I know that not just
anybody does that, it takes someone very special that
is very loving.
Emilee, remember when I popped
my arm out of socket and you drove me all the way
to Panguitch to the doctor to have it checked? At
that point I really felt like somebody cared about
me. Also, when you took me to Cedar for my shoulder
surgery and how much fun we had filling out the paperwork.
Mike,
remember when I first got here and we would go bow
shooting almost every day after school? It was so
cool to just go and “play” without having
to worry about getting in trouble.
Pauline, we have had some times
together. The one that stands out the most is when
we were sitting in the front room doing English work
and talking about life. We must have talked for a
few hours. I honestly don’t remember what was
said, but I remember what the meaning was. You have
helped me through some bad times too, and I will remember
your words for the rest of my life.
Big “D”, you have
taught me a lot in life about working and being a
caring person; to care about other people not just
yourself and that a little work and dirt really don’t
hurt. I think if I didn’t meet you I probably
wouldn’t have ever worked in my life. But, I
learned that the meaning of work isn’t the money,
it’s just the fact that you are doing something
with your life. Even when you had a hurt shoulder,
you still got done what needed to get done and didn’t
complain one bit.
Anyways,
overall my stay here in small Escalante, Utah hasn’t
been too bad and I am going to graduate. I think my
stay here reminds me of the song, “Landslide”
by Stevie Nicks. I am really going to miss joking
with Elaine and Emilee and listening to Mike’s
hunting stories and everything else that goes on here.
But, it is my time to go and I am going to make the
best of it with everything that I have learned here.
This school isn’t just a school for troubled
kids, it’s a loving school with a loving staff.
I hope to make you proud as I have made my parents
since I’ve been here. Thank you for everything
and I wish all of you the best of luck after I leave.
You are my second family and I will never forget any
of you.” --Tony, California
